Business Problem
BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) is a medical technology company that serves healthcare institutions, life science researchers, clinical laboratories, industry and the general public. Organized by three segments (BD Biosciences, BD Diagnostics, and BD Medical), BD manufactures and sells a broad range of medical supplies, devices, laboratory equipment and diagnostic products. Headquartered in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey, BD employs more than 25,000 people in approximately 50 countries throughout the world.
The Sales Operations Department for BD Diabetes Health Care needed an automated solution to view daily sales information. They also wanted to merge and combine two disparate data sources (one being SAP) into a normalized Oracle database. The resulting sales data needed to be viewable by all Field Sales Force staff as well as the executive management.
BI Source Solution
BI Source was able to develop a unique solution for this difficult problem. Calling upon our expertise in Data Warehousing and Data Mapping, BI Source was able to integrate and map each system’s unique data elements into a single normalized data structure. This was accomplished by developing the ETL (Extract, Transform, and Load) scripts that would "autoload" the disparate data elements into one Oracle database. The PowerPlay cube was developed based on the Department’s unique business reporting & analysis criteria, and deployed in an environment accessible to the field sales personnel on a daily basis.
Result
The result of this powerful solution was the seamless integration of both disparate systems data with minimal interruption. This solution allowed the business to review daily sales figures in a real-time environment using customized reports that automatically update overnight.
