Cognos
We will soon introduce the BI Source Business Intelligence Certification Program for the MicroStrategy BI platform as well.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS


Cognos 8 BI for Consumers
An introduction to the Cognos Business Intelligence environment. This course will teach report consumers how to access and run reports in the Cognos Connection Web Portal. Topics covered include:
- Running and viewing reports
- Organizing content with folders and shortcuts
- Customizing report output
- Scheduling reports
- Personalizing Cognos Connection
- Performing searches within Cognos 8 BI
- Getting Cognos content on the go
Users will participate in interactive demonstrations and workshops that illustrate and reinforce the topics covered in the course. At the completion of the course, users will be able to personalize their portal, locate and add content to the portal, run reports, save report output, and organize their content.

Cognos 8 Query Studio
This course is designed for business authors who would like to learn to create, modify, and organize ad hoc reports. The course will cover the different report capabilities of Query Studio, changing the look of your reports to suit your requirements, as well as scheduling and displaying reports in different formats. Users will participate in interactive demonstrations and workshops that illustrate and reinforce the topics covered in the course.
At the conclusion of the course, users will be able to:
- Build queries to answer business questions
- Add formatting to the query
- Add information not available in the database by using calculations
- Save and export queries in any available formats
Prerequisite for course: Cognos 8 BI for Consumers

Cognos 8 Analysis Studio
This course will teach business analysts how to use Analysis Studio to explore, compare, and analyze information. Students will learn basic technology, how to insert objects into an analysis, and how to drill up and down through the levels of data. Users will participate in interactive demonstrations and workshops that illustrate and reinforce the topics covered in the course.
At the conclusion of this course, users will be able to:
- Create a report based on a Cognos PowerCube
- View unrelated items in crosstabs
- Assess performance by focusing on top or bottom results
- Assign relative importance by using calculations
- Perform a deep comparative analysis on the Cube
Prerequisite for course: Cognos 8 BI for Consumers

Cognos 8 and Microsoft Office
This course teaches users how to extend the benefits and capabilities of Cognos 8 Business Intelligence to the Microsoft Office environment. Participants will learn how to import reports from Cognos Connection into Excel spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations. Users will participate in interactive demonstrations and workshops that illustrate and reinforce the topics covered in the course.
At the conclusion of this course, users will be able to:
- Run entries in Cognos Connection using Microsoft Office
- Include Cognos reports in PowerPoint presentations and Excel spreadsheets
- Know how to publish Cognos-enabled workbooks and presentations to Cognos Connection
Prerequisites for course: Cognos 8 Query Studio & Cognos 8 Analysis Studio

Intro to Cognos 8 Report Studio
This course will present an introduction to Report Studio and the different report types that can be created. Learn how to format and sort the data in the report, and present your data graphically. Focus your reports through filters and create new information through the use of calculations. Users will participate in interactive demonstrations and workshops that illustrate and reinforce the topics covered in the course.
At the conclusion of this course, users will be able to:
- Sort and format data
- Add and format text in the report
- Present graphical representations of data
- Focus the report by using filters
- Incorporate new information through the use of calculations
Prerequisites for course: Cognos 8 BI for Consumers or equivalent knowledge & experience with Cognos Connection

Cognos 8 Report Studio Intermediate Topics
This course represents the next level of report-building techniques. Users will participate in interactive demonstrations and workshops that illustrate additional report-building concepts and tasks, such as conditional formatting, using queries to determine page layouts, and reusing report objects.
At the conclusion of this course, users will be able to:
- Break a report into sections
- Design page layouts using queries
- Allow users to focus reports by using prompts
- Create master-detail reports
- Reuse objects in reports
- Use conditional formatting to highlight exceptional data
- Customize charts
- Enhance reports by including images, multimedia files, and hyperlinks
